My expertise lies in chemistry, biochemistry, scientific technical writing, and science communication. In 2016, I received a BSc in Chemistry with Honors from Moravian College. Through a work study program, I tutored students in General Chemistry I and II for 2 years. I also worked as a lab teaching assistant in General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Fundamentals of Chemistry (Nursing) Lab over the course of 2 years. I continued my education and training at UMBC, where I received a PhD in Chemistry in 2022.
My thesis research was specifically in the field of Bioinorganic Chemistry with a focus on protein structure, function, and metal binding. During my entire graduate career (6 years total) at UMBC, I taught and mentored students. I was a teaching assistant for General Chemistry Lab, Biochemistry Lab, and Comprehensive Biochemistry. I held office hours, graded quizzes and exams, and graded lab reports. In my research lab, I trained and mentored both undergraduate and graduate students.
I have numerous scientific publications including research articles, short communications, review papers and book chapters, and experience writing NIH F31/F32 and NSF GRFP grants. I was also awarded the NIH-NIGMS T32 Chemistry Biology Interface Training Grant Fellowship. I continued my training at UMB in Pharmaceutical Sciences where I received extensive training in elemental determination by QQQ-ICP-MS and ICP-MS. During my 2 years as a post-doc, I also participated in the NIH T32 Interdisciplinary Training Program in Cardiovascular Disease and mentored and trained high school and graduate students. I then worked for the FDA in CTP as a Chemistry Reviewer. I reviewed the validity of analytical test methods, evaluated large data sets (e.g., HPHCs, ingredients), and applied new FDA guidance into reviews to ensure tobacco product safety. These experiences provided me with the critical foundations to mentor others in the fields of chemistry, biochemistry, scientific communication, technical writing, and standardized test p
