I am proud graduate of the illustrious Howard University, where I majored in communications and minored in Arabic. Additionally, I hold a Master of Arts degree in English from Maryland's oldest historically black college, Bowie State University. I also am in possession of a Cambridge University CELTA certificate which qualifies me to teach English around the world to speakers of other languages. As a native speaker of English, I am also conversant in the languages of Spanish, Arabic, and Farsi. Suffice to say I have a fond love of languages and cultures around the world. Whenever I am working with a student, I always make it a top priority to listen intently to what she or he has to say before I position a solution to the tutee's learning dilemma. My lessons are usually lighthearted, as I include a keen use of humor in my pedagogy to help my students feel comfortable to ask nuanced questions that are specific to their situation.

I have five years experience tutoring writing at the university level and four years of experience teaching English as a second language in the public school system. In addition, I have three years of adjunct professor experience teaching English at Bowie State University. While I feel comfortable teaching in the classroom or large lecture hall settings, I enjoy one on one interactions with students the best, as these communicative exchanges permit me to engage in deliberative dialogue that empowers the student overtime to arrive at solutions on their own.

While I work mostly with English speaking students, I also have experience working with Arabic, Farsi, Dari, Nepali, Spanish, Urdu, Turkish, and Mandarin speakers. I love helping students who want to learn, especially those students who may feel like the underdog along their educational path. By working with me, I will speak life into the students and motivate them continuously in order to build and sustain their confidence in their own abilities.

Approved Subjects

Arabic

Arabic

I began studying modern standard Arabic in 2004, during my freshman year at Howard University. I spent two years working at an Arab restaurant in Washington, D.C. while in college and I studied abroad in Morocco during the summer of 2007. Recently, I provided academic support to students from Saudi Arabia who would visit the Bowie State University writing lab, and I spent a year teaching English as a second language in the Baltimore County public school system to students from Arabic speaking countries.
Farsi

Farsi

I have been studying Farsi independently and intensely for the past two years. To aid me along in this process, I have been liaising with online tutors and working with Persian textbooks to learn the language. Additionally, I practice Farsi language, learning games on language learning apps on a daily basis.
