As a freshman at St. John’s College in the Great Books program, I am immersed in a rigorous, discussion-based curriculum centered on classic works of literature, philosophy, mathematics, science, and history. Rather than relying on lectures or memorization, our classes are built on close reading, thoughtful dialogue, and collaborative problem-solving. This experience has strengthened my critical thinking skills and taught me how to analyze complex material, ask meaningful questions, and communicate ideas clearly. Because our seminars depend on active participation, I have learned how to explain difficult concepts in accessible ways and engage respectfully with different perspectives—skills that translate directly into effective tutoring.
Although I am at the beginning of my formal tutoring journey, I bring substantial experience from leading study groups and working one-on-one with peers to unpack challenging texts and concepts. My tutoring approach is rooted in patience, encouragement, and active engagement. I strive to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and thinking out loud. Rather than simply providing answers, I guide students through the reasoning process so they can build confidence and develop independent problem-solving skills.
My goal is not only to help students master the material at hand, but also to foster curiosity, clarity of thought, and a genuine enjoyment of learning.
