I’m intimately familiar with standardized tests. Early in the morning while the rest of my friends picked up their coffees, I got to homeroom early to study my SAT practice problems. I spent my
Saturdays taking practice tests and reviewing my mistakes. The hard work paid off, as those scores helped get me into Northeastern University, from which I’ve graduated with a degree in math and computer science.
While studying at Northeastern, I had the opportunity to bring those test taking skills back to life as a summer tutor for Revolution Prep’s summer ACT tutoring program. I taught a classroom of 15 students, where we practiced all four main ACT sections by learning how to problem solve and think critically with proven test taken strategies. I continued tutoring during the school year as a peer tutor at Northeastern, where I did individual tutoring sessions with other students for intro math and programming courses.
In my professional life I’ve continued to apply all the teaching skills I’ve learned. As a program manager at Digital Ready I successfully lead a computer science department that taught programming to over 300 15-23 year olds from underrepresented communities in Boston. Later I’d be an algebra 2 teacher at City on a Hill, where I lead two classes of 15 to a 90% pass rate while individually supporting students throughout the rest of the day. I look forward to all the new things I can learn as a tutor with Wyzant.
