About Samantha

My name is Samantha and I am currently working as a Special Education teacher in the Worcester Public Schools. I am passionate about working with children and helping them to succeed. I believe that every child should be able to reach their potential and enjoy learning. My experience with children includes a wide variety of situations.

I began my career working with children as a childcare provider. Over the years I have worked as a Religious Education Instructor, a Camp Counselor, a Tutor, an AVID Tutor, a nanny, and a teacher. Within these situation I have worked with all ages and a variety of disabilities.

My undergraduate degree is from Lesley University where I studied English and Special Education. During my time there I completed placements in the Brookline Public Schools and worked in the Cambridge Public Schools. I am level one certified in the Wilson Reading System and working towards my level two certification.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

My undergraduate degree is from Lesley University where I studied English and Special Education. My educational background is in the area of Special Education. Within classrooms, childcare, and camp settings I have worked with students both medicated and unmedicated. One of my goals is to work with students on developing strategies to help with organization and focus. I work with students and families on developing strategies to help the student focus and organize him or herself. This includes sensory breaks.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

My educational background is in the area of Special Education. I have worked as a lead teacher and an assistant in a summer school program specializing in students on the Autism Spectrum. As part of this program, I implemented trials and took data on student behaviors. I developed behavior plans and created targeted lessons based on student needs. I incorporate sensory breaks within the lessons as well.

Dyslexia

My educational background is in the area of Special Education. One of my practicums was in a Language Based Learning Disabilities Resource Room. Currently I work as an inclusion teacher in a Learning Disabilities Program and am completing level 1 Wilson Certified.

Elementary (K-6th)

My educational background is in the area of Special Education, Elementary Education, and Early Childhood Education. I have worked with students in both traditional and non-traditional settings. Currently, I work as an Inclusion Specialist in an Elementary School.

Handwriting

My educational background is in the area of Special Education. Over the years I have used both Handwriting without Tears and Fundations. I believe in consistency across instruction and a multisensory approach.

Phonics

My educational background is in the area of Special Education. Within classrooms, childcare, and camp settings I have worked with a variety of students. I work in a Fundations School and have completed my level one Wilson Certification and will begin my level two training in the fall.

Special Needs

My educational background is in the area of Special Education. Within classrooms, childcare, and camp settings I have worked with students diagnosed with a variety of disabilities. Part of my work includes using social stories and direct teaching of social skills. I've worked in both self-contained and inclusion models.

Study Skills

My educational background is in the area of Special Education. Within classrooms, childcare, and camp settings I have worked with a variety of students. I have worked as an AVID tutor and am currently working in an AVID school.
