About Kelsey

Hi There! I am new to WyzAnt, but have been tutoring others ever since I was in middle school myself. I love to learn and love to teach, and believe that the two are intertwined. I would feel honored to be given the opportunity to work with you or your child in whatever area they need assistance in. I am a versatile tutor and have many skill sets to share! I am also very persistent and adaptable and will assist the student through a variety of methods until we find one that works!

I wanted to share a little bit about my education background so that you understand my passion for school. I graduated from high school as second in my class after taking 4 AP courses and scoring 5/5 on each test. I had already been enrolled at Holy Cross College part time for two semesters. From there, I went to Fairfield University and graduated from their Honors Program in 3 years with a 3.94 GPA. I double majored in International Studies and Political Science, and minored in Peace and Justice Studies.

My work experience has included 2 years of service with Peace Corps Morocco as a Youth Development Volunteer. I have experience teaching ESOL, language, math, study skills and social studies with youth through adult learners. I am passionate about learning and eager to customize a study plan to fit your needs!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have strong math skills and have a strong history in teaching students middle school and high school math. Even if you have a history of struggling in math, I know that if we work together we can change that!

Career Development

I have a great deal of experience working with youth to select an appropriate career path and to start the initial steps necessary to complete that path. I currently work full-time at a job and education center for youth and train them in pre-employment skills and career exploration.

College Counseling

I have a great deal of experience assisting youth throughout the college search. I have assisted youth with writing college essays, campus visits and preparing for interviews. I currently work full time at a job and education center for at-risk youth.

Elementary Math

I love math and have excelled in the subject through the college level. Elementary math is a crucial step for many children to learn the basic tools and develop the confidence they will need to excel in the subject when they are older.

ESL/ESOL

I have a great deal of experience teaching ESOL. I have experience in a large classroom setting and individual tutoring. I have worked with ages 8-70 and know how to assist you with conversational, grammar or writing issues. I also spent two years in Morocco teaching English on a full-time basis to youth and women.

Handwriting

I have great penmanship and would be a strong tutor for youth learning to write print or cursive texts. I have experience working in writing skills with elementary students. I use repetitive, interactive techniques that allow children to develop muscle memory for the letters.

Political Science

I majored in Political Science and finished a Bachelor's Program in the field. I am well versed in American Politics, Political Theory, Comparative Politics and Development Theory. I graduated with a 3.94 GPA in 3 years and wrote two capstone papers, both exceeding 25 pages in Political Science.

Public Speaking

During my undergraduate studies I was on the school's debate team. It was Parliamentary style debate with teams of two and a series of 8 minute speeches. I feel comfortable public speaking and believe I can help others with my skills.

Study Skills

I served two years in the Peace Corps as a Youth Development Volunteer. One of my main activities was working in the Youth Center, teaching students better ways to study. I work hard to assess each students learning abilities and offer them verbal, visual, aural and kinesthetic options for learning.
