I am currently an undergraduate student at Johns Hopkins University with a strong academic foundation in mathematics and over 2–4 years of tutoring experience. Throughout my tutoring journey, I have worked with students across a wide range of ages and skill levels, from elementary school students to adult learners. My experience includes serving as a tutor in an ESL program, where I helped adult students strengthen their mathematical understanding/English comprehension, as well as providing one-on-one tutoring through Johns Hopkins University's Tutorial Project, working closely with elementary school students to build confidence and improve academic performance.
My teaching approach is centered on adapting each lesson to the individual student because I understand that everyone learns differently. I begin by introducing and explaining new concepts in a clear, approachable way, then guide students through practice problems before encouraging them to solve similar problems independently. Afterward, we review their work together, identify areas of difficulty, and address misconceptions until they feel confident with the material. Since I have personally experienced the challenges of learning mathematics, I strive to create a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes as part of the learning process.
One of my proudest accomplishments as a tutor was helping a student improve their overall math performance by 150% through consistent, individualized instruction. This success led to my promotion to an organizer position within the Tutorial Project, where I took on additional leadership responsibilities while continuing to support student learning. My goal as a tutor is not only to help students improve their grades but also to build their confidence and strengthen their problem-solving abilities.
