Hi! I’m Dr. Sarah, a PhD-trained biomedical scientist passionate about helping students succeed in science and math. I tutor biology, chemistry, and biochemistry, as well as math from elementary through graduate school having been a tutor and counselor for elementary to high school students in after school and summer programs such as Upward Bound, a peer led team leader for Chemistry in undergrad, and mentor and TA in graduate school for genetics and biomedical sciences, as well as a personal 1 on 1 tutor for various ages and subjects.

With this extensive experience mentoring and tutoring students of all ages, from young learners building foundational skills to older students tackling advanced topics, I have learned how to make my lessons approachable by listening to what my students need and pointing out their strengths so that they may succeed even when I'm not there to help them. I have found many students have the passion and capacity to learn but often lack the confidence to trust themselves. With this in mind, I tend to take a calm and patient approach with lots of doodles and examples for I tend to be a more visual learner myself and have found success with that for my students.

Whether you’re struggling with a topic, preparing for a test, or just want to improve your skills, I’m here to help you succeed. Let’s make science and math engaging and achievable! You've got this!

Neuroscience

At the University of Maine, I achieved Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Biology with minors in Neuroscience and Psychology and an Honors thesis with High Honors about my self directed experiment about microglia activation in association with alcohol withdrawal in different mouse strains with different genetic backgrounds. For my PhD, I specialized in rare neuromuscular diseases studying nerves, muscles, and behavior in murine disease models. This research led to a successful preclinical trial for a gene therapy that is now in clinical trials. This experience gives me a holistic background in neuroscience understanding the biology, chemistry, physics, behavioral aspects, as well as real world applications in biomedical research and sociological impact.
