My name is Nancy Z., and I earned my Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Alabama in 2007. During my graduate studies, I served as a Teaching Assistant for six years in General Chemistry (GEN Chem) I and II, and for three years in Analytical Chemistry and Instrument Analysis Lab. In these roles, I instructed and supported undergraduate students—typically aged 18 to 21—in both lecture and laboratory settings. I worked with approximately 50 students per year in General Chemistry and fewer than 20 students per year in Analytical Chemistry. In Instrument Analysis Lab students learned working principles and gained hands-on experience with various instruments in small groups of 3-4 students.
These experiences allow me to develop a student-focused teaching style and a strong foundation in communicating complex scientific concepts to students at the start of their academic journey. I focus on understanding my students' unique perspectives and learning styles, and I always aim to anticipate any challenges they might face. Then I provide one-on-one support to help students better understand the professor's lectures, address their questions on both the material and homework assignments. Ultimately, my goal is to help students build the skills and confidence they need to succeed both now and in the future.
My current teaching portfolio includes:
Chemistry courses: General Chemistry I and II (Gen Chem I & II), Analytical Chemistry, Instrument Analysis Lab, Regular Chemistry, Honors Chemistry, and AP Chemistry
Math courses: SAT Math, ACT Math, Algebra I, Algebra II and pre algebra
I truly hope my students gain valuable benefits from our sessions, and I always welcome feedback from both students and parents. I'm easy to reach and strive to respond quickly to any inquiries. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or to schedule a lesson.
Just a heads-up, I’m in the Eastern Time Zone, so please keep that in mind when contacting me.
