Hello, My name is Mr. Murphy and I have been teaching since 2005. I've taught in both public and private schools and currently teach middle school math and science. I returned to middle school after teaching high school math for ten years. I started private tutoring in 2015 and my focus in 1:1 sessions is understanding how students learn. Our time together is optimized by approaching the subject in the way that your student learns best. Over the past 20 years, I've identified patterns in how people learn and how to help them to enjoy learning.
My first love is mathematics and I'm accustomed to identifying and filling the deficits in learning as well as correcting misconceptions and overcoming math trauma. We learn best when we understand the resources and tools at our disposal, so the initial lessons are designed to help students adapt to the curriculum and resources they are given in school. We draw from additional resources as needed.
I've taught several math curriculum from 1st through 12th grade. I have taught SAT & ACT prep as well as I SEE prep courses. I've also worked with Math Olympiad teams and the Art of Problem Solving curriculum. My undergraduate degree is in English and I have a Masters degree in education as well as multiple state teaching licenses including science, & math.
