Hello! I am Nick, a recent graduate of Dartmouth College in New Hampshire where I studied Biological Sciences and English on the pre-med track. Through my lifelong pursuit of knowledge, I've realized there is one thing I like even more than learning... teaching.

As a tutor, I abide by the philosophy that teaching is more about a guiding a student to their own effective learning path than just a simple transmission of knowledge. Nowadays, with YouTube, ChatGPT and the plethora of online resources, there is no dearth of information available at the tips of our fingertips. Information, however, is not the goal of learning, and a student is not simply a repository for facts. The purpose of education is to enable a student to critically understand a subject from the ground up and be able to deploy that understanding in solving complex problems. I believe in an approach that promotes thorough understanding of a subject rather than pursuit of high marks. At first, this understanding may be a slow process, but upon its strong foundations, the apprehension of higher level learning becomes easier and more gratifying, building from a solid core rather than each new topic standing alone. This requires commitment from both student and teacher. Bringing passion and patience to my teaching, I excel in evoking energy from my students, and on my end, will always be available to respond to any questions and concerns.

My tutoring experience spans subjects, from creative and expository writing to systems biology. I also have experience tutoring in Algebra, Physics and Chemistry at a High School level. I am experienced, a passionate tutor and excited to help you learn. Please contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a lesson!

ACT English

ACT English

As a lifelong writer, I have devoted many years to the study of creating and interpreting meaning through words on a page. In doing so, I have developed an intuition for evaluating proper grammar, meanings of unfamiliar words, and the proper interpretation of unclear sentences. These skills allowed me to achieve a 36 on the ACT's English and Reading sections. As a tutor, I will share my plan for developing this intuition, allowing for success on the severely time-limited test that is the ACT.

Biology

Biology

As a major in Biological Sciences with a focus in cellular biology, I developed strong understanding of the principles of biology including genetics, physiology, cell biology and systems biology before exploring higher level research and actionable topics. Additionally, I performed cancer research in molecular biology for 3 years in the Wang Lab at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.
Chemistry

Chemistry

As a pre-medical student at Dartmouth College, Chemistry courses were a major portion of my curriculum. Success in Chemistry, more so than in any other subject I've encountered, relies on understanding of critical first principles. I have experience in teaching these principals and guiding students to exercise them in succeeding in high-school level coursework.
English

English

As a passionate writer and English major, I understand the process of effectively conveying ideas through words. While the content of writing differs based on style - expository essays, imagist poems, etc. - the steps to persuasive writing are universal, and are learned through intentional practice and reflection. I have the tools to enable these practices. Having formally studied the English Language at Dartmouth as well as intentionally developing my own writing technique over the past many years, I am well-equipped to guide students towards developing their own power of writing.
