Hi I'm Mike! I have been a Biology Professor at Boston College and Merrimack College collectively for over 20 years. I also was a high school educator for approximately 10 years. I have always approached teaching biology through a "clinical lens". This means my students learn the fundamentals of biology by diagnosing "problems" and disease states which actively engages them in confronting challenging questions and issues. In the classroom I use a variety of learning tools and visual media to pose questions, tackle misconceptions, and understand basic biological concepts.

As your tutor, I will use strategies to actively engage you in conceptualizing the challenges you face, the misconceptions you may have, and help you need to not only succeed in your biology or chemistry course but CRUSH it! For example, depending on what concepts you are learning in your biology course that week, I may show you a video clip from a popular medical drama like "The Pitt" and ask you how might your current knowledge of biology explain a particular clinical problem of phenomenon dramatized in the video. Using that clinical case, we would "diagnose" what you know, what you don't, and how to further your understanding of the biology required for your class.

My teaching experience with both high school and college level students has informed me that courses in biology and chemistry are challenging and difficult. They were for me as a student as well. But, I also know from my experiences as a Professor (and a student) that with the right kind of guidance and mentoring, biology and chemistry can be inspirational, exciting, impactful, and yes..FUN!
