My name is Ryan, and I’m a dermatology resident and graduate of UMass Chan Medical School. I majored in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Boston University and have spent the past several years mentoring pre-medical and medical students through applications, personal statements, secondary essays, interviews, USMLE preparation, and residency strategy.

Having matched into dermatology, one of the most competitive specialties in medicine, I understand how important it is to build an application that is polished, cohesive, strategic, and memorable. My main focus is helping students craft strong narratives for AMCAS/AACOMAS, ERAS, personal statements, activities, secondary essays, and interviews. My editing goes beyond grammar. I help students clarify their central theme, strengthen reflection, improve structure, and make sure every part of the application tells an authentic and compelling story.

I also tutor USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK, with an emphasis on high-yield reasoning, clinical pattern recognition, and efficient study strategy. I scored a 268 on Step 2 CK and help students move away from passive review toward active recall, spaced repetition, diagnostic reasoning, and stronger test-taking strategy.

Beyond tutoring, I have worked in medical education research, published over 30 peer-reviewed papers, and created educational materials for YouTube and other platforms. My teaching style is clear, supportive, efficient, and tailored to each student’s goals.

It includes a section of good and bad examples of personal statements from prior students. I also worked as an admissions committee medical student in my first year of school.

Knowledgeable and highly reliable tutor

Ryan gave me really helpful feedback that pushed my personal statement from a straightforward list of experiences into something that actually told a story. He was quick to respond to my questions and always followed through on what he said he would do, so the whole process felt easy and low-stress. It’s clear he understands what admissions committees are looking for, his input made a real difference in how my statement is turning out. Highly recommended!
