Asalamu alikum, this is Mohamed a native Arabic instructor. I am a former Arabic instructor at Fairfield University, CT, USA. I have been teaching English (ESL) and Arabic as a foreign language since 2013.
I studied for a TEFL diploma to learn better how to teach language. I not only examined methods of teaching English but also experienced ways of illuminating language culture for non-native speakers.
During my work in the United States, I completed one fourteen-hour language teaching...

An AMAZING Instructor!
Where to begin? I have taken traditional MSA courses for a few years now, but struggle to hold a conversation in Arabic. My classes typically include some listening and speaking practice - but it's usually listening to excerpts with vocabulary introduced in the same chapter I'm working on or reciting paragraphs that someone else wrote. The main focus of my classes has been learning grammar and morphology (verb forms, tenses, attached pronouns, etc.). In order to help correct this problem I went looking for instructors who can teach through conversation in Arabic (aka with "comprehensible input") and give me a chance to practice speaking and listening to/from a native speaker. To my surprise, finding instructors who are good at this is exceedingly difficult (though I now have a better understanding of why). - First, instructors must have knowledge of common Arabic curricula for English speaking students, and simultaneously not be married to teaching directly from these textbooks. Why? Because they need to know what words you're likely to have encountered before. - Second, instructors must be EXTREMELY deliberate with their word choices when they talk to you; only using words you're likely to know (with a moderated number of new words being introduced). - Third, instructors have to be VERY patient. It does no good if they start finishing your sentences for you because they are impatient. - Finally, instructors must be experienced enough with English speakers to know (and correct in their heads) common mispronunciations or "misspellings" and must be able to correct those gently without lingering on them forever. I have tried instructors who have difficulty with some or all of the above; who either resort to teaching from a book because they don't know how to carry on a conversation this way, who can't overlook minor pronunciation problems, who can't choose their words carefully, or who can't be bothered to allow you to finish attempting to construct your thought before finishing it for you. Mohammed is BY FAR the best instructor I have found for this. I imagine that if someone spoke - to - me - at - the - rate - I - speak - with - him in English that it would be incredibly painful for me - LOL - but he is very patient, he is very careful with his word choices, he will ask me questions that give me an opportunity to use and reinforce new vocabulary words I've learned with him, etc. While I haven't done traditional textbook learning with him, I am certain he would excel at this too based on his obvious teaching skill. I could not recommend him more highly.

Very very kind and patient tutor!
Mohamed A. is a very kind and interpersonal. He such a teacher-very natural at what he does. For a man of his accomplishments, I am thankful that he takes the time to teach me at an affordable cost and especially for how patient he is with me as I am a bit of a slower learner at my age and with my life schedule. I am learning the Arabic alphabet right now and with a method he is using that is very easy to grasp and remember. Thank you very much Mohammed Abdelsalam!

Very knowledgeable and interesting lectures!
I had taken Mohamed’s Arabic - contemporary Egypt course and I got so much out of it. He presented the major figures in the political leadership and also gave me brief histories and examples - I feel like I now understand so much more about the complex subject, but he presented it in a very easy to understand way! I rate this lesson as excellent!

The Most Patient Tutor
Mr. Mohamed has been tutoring me for several months now. We meet once a week for an hour. I’ve been learning many greetings, words, and conversation starters. I also learned some of the alphabet and have practiced writing. Mr. Mohamed has been so incredibly patient and understanding of style of learning. He answers all my questions and continues to encourage me as I become better at speaking Egyptian Arabic. Thank you for all you do Mr. Mohamed. You’re a great teacher indeed!
