About Alan

Bio

With a BA in Physics I started as a high school teacher and then earned a BSEE. As an electrical engineer for decades I’ve applied physics, electronics, software and math to the industry which creates and tests semi-conductor devices.

When I teach I always look to help the students understand the real world applications behind the subject matter.

I feel that patience is key in instructing. Collaboration between both parties always gets the best results.

When I teach I always look to help the students understand the real world applications behind the subject matter.

I feel that patience is key in instructing. Collaboration between both parties always gets the best results.

Behind the math are real world applications understanding both is key to excelling in mathematics. I have the maturity and experience to provide that.

I have the physics background and I have applied it in engineering. The key to problem-solving is understanding the linkages between math and physics. I have the maturity and experience to provide these things.

I encourage you to contact me if you think that I could be a good match and I would encourage you to provide me, through Wyzant's platform with what your expectations are and what specific areas you would like to cover.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

As a physics instructor, I taught the law of nature and all of that rested on algebra. As an electrical engineer, I worked on state of the art semiconductor devices, all of which could be described down to simple algebraic expressions. I bring practical life experiences to my tutoring.
Earth Science

Earth Science

I taught earth science at Delran High School in New Jersey, integrating physics, cosmology, and geology to help students see the connections across scientific disciplines. I developed a Unified Science curriculum that allowed students to move logically between related concepts and understand the broader structure of the natural world. My teaching emphasized scientific reasoning, conceptual synergy, and real‑world applications. This approach helped students build a deeper and more integrated understanding of earth and space sciences.
Quantum Physics

Quantum Physics

I hold a bachelor’s degree in physics and have studied quantum mechanics through both academic coursework and laboratory experience. My background includes performing the double-slit experiment using a helium-neon laser, where I observed interference effects giving rise to both constructive and destructive amplitude additions. I also studied wave-particle duality and the Schrödinger equation in connection with the hydrogen atom. My training further included analyzing gas absorption spectra and identifying wavelength transitions as distinct chemical fingerprints, which strengthened my understanding of the Bohr model and its place in the development of quantum theory. In addition, I have studied foundational topics such as superposition, coherence, and the measurement problem, along with the Heisenberg uncertainty principle, Planck’s ultraviolet catastrophe, Planck units, and the meaning of the Schrödinger’s cat thought experiment. I also performed Bell test experiments using photon polarization, which deepened my understanding of entanglement and the differences between quantum and classical statistics. Beyond my formal physics background, I have written quantum programs using qubits, studied quantum algorithms, and tested photonic devices in semiconductor electronics work. This combination of academic study, laboratory work, and applied technical experience gives me a strong foundation for helping students understand quantum mechanics clearly and confidently.
