Hello students and parents!

I am a scientist and engineer in the biotech industry and have been tutoring for over 10 years, specializing in algebra, test prep, study and organizational skills, and organic chemistry.

I am very purposeful about customizing tutoring to match specific goals, learning style, and the student’s personality. I can help with specific questions or I can lead the session if the student isn't sure where to begin. I am very patient, having worked with all kinds of students at many levels and personalities. Everyone learns differently, has different motivations, strengths, and struggles. My goal is always to encourage and build confidence. When a student is not understanding, I seek to identify where the disconnect is happening. Teaching is also creative -- I approach confusion as an opportunity to find new ways of explaining and guiding the student.

As a student I enjoyed developing my own study and organizational skills, so now it is rewarding for me to pass along this knowledge and keep those skills sharp. Tutoring is personally rewarding because it allows me to grow as a teacher -- I am always trying out new ways of approaching and explaining problems.

Organic Chemistry

Organic Chemistry

I recently graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.S. in Neurobiology with Honors (GPA 3.62), which required a multitude of chemistry and biology classes for which Organic Chemistry was a prerequisite. I received an A in both Organic Chemistry I and II, and have one student I am currently tutoring in Organic Chemistry. I worked as a Peer Academic Coach at the UT Learning Center for two semesters, where I organized lessons to help UT students one-on-one with study skills and test taking, which are imperative for success in demanding courses like Organic Chemistry. My experience also includes several months tutoring a student in remedial middle school math and a university student in biology.
SAT Math

SAT Math

When I took the GRE prior to graduate school (similar to the SAT but more advanced), I scored 169/170 (96th percentile) on the quantitative section and 164/170 (94th percentile) on the verbal section.

Study Skills

Study Skills

I worked for one year as a Peer Academic Coach at the University of Texas at Austin Sanger Learning Center. My role was to help university students with studying, prioritization, concentration, and test-taking. I structured my sessions with a review from the previous week, preview of the current topic, discussion/guided demonstration/independent practice of the topic, and ended with a session review and assignment for the week.
