I hold a master's degree in mathematics from Brandeis University where I studied hyperbolic spaces and groups, a bachelor's degree in applied mathematics from Southern New Hampshire University, and I am licensed to teach high school mathematics in the state of Massachusetts. I am a member of the National Tutoring Association and I have experience in and a proven track record over the last 5 years of increasing confidence and performance for students. In my time tutoring, I have received overwhelmingly positive feedback including a personal distinction of being "the best tutor [one student] ever had." Other testimonials include statements like "[Drew is] one of the best math tutors I've had on [this platform]. [He] refused to move on until I learned something and also was very patient with me." I tutor numerous high school and undergraduate topics successfully, including: Algebra I/II, Geometry, Pre-calculus, Calculus I/II/III, Differential Equations, Discrete Math, Math Proofs, Statistics, Linear Algebra, Mathematical Modeling/Non-Linear Dynamics, Abstract Algebra, Real Analysis, Topology, Mathematics of Cryptography, Graph Theory, and Number Theory.

I'm sure many people reading this have heard someone say that they aren't a math person (perhaps it was even you). Often, the sentiment is that one's brain needs to be "wired" for mathematics, or that people who excel in math hold some innate gift. This is not very accurate. I am a firm believer in the notion that no one is a "non-math" person. When a student is allowed to discover new concepts in an adaptable environment, mathematical ideas can really "sink" in. My personal style is to put less emphasis on rote and memorization while delving into truly understanding what is being taught. This makes homework quicker and test time easier - especially for those who get stressed during exams. I recognize that every person learns differently, so we will take our time to tailor our sessions to your particular learning style.

Approved Subjects

Calculus

Calculus

My degree program had a concentration in applied mathematics, which utilizes calculus and its offshoots (eg: differential equations) to model real-world phenomena. In addition to the usual calculus studies (differentiation, integration, sequences/series, multivariable, etc.), I have delved into using calculus in mathematical modeling of dynamical systems including methods in phase plane analysis.
Discrete Math

Discrete Math

My background includes coursework and study directly in discrete mathematics (including basic combinatorics, number theory, graph theory, modular arithmetic, logic, relations, and pseudocode). I also have done coursework in cryptography (basic cryptosystems and theory behind encryption) and discrete dynamical systems (which covered systems of difference equations, chaos, periodicity, bifurcations, orbit diagrams, etc.)
Real Analysis

Real Analysis

I have tutored numerous hours of undergraduate real analysis and hold a masters degree in mathematics. I have covered topics including construction of the real numbers, fields, point-set topology, continuity, differentiation, multivariable functions, integration, and introductory Lebesgue theory. I have also run proof-writing workshops for undergraduate math students.

Amazing Tutor and Genuinely Invested in the Success of his Students

Drew has been the best tutor I could have asked for. He has been nothing but professional and friendly since I began my sessions with him. He has a real in-depth knowledge of the material and is able to verbalize it to those who are less mathematically savvy. He is also genuinely invested in the success of his students and makes himself available, even fielding homework questions over the weekend for me. If you're struggling with math you should reach out to him

Best Tutor

Really breaks everything down and helps you understand the topic! Very happy to have found a tutor who understands my struggles and is willing to help.

Very helpful and intricate tutor

My tutor helped teach me about dynamics of linear equations, which was helpful because of the way he broke down elements of one specific question to find the correct answer.

Reliable and talented discrete math tutor

Andrew has been a game-changer for my son's discrete math journey. His exceptional tutoring skills and personalized approach turned my son's overwhelming test prep worries into a newfound confidence. Andrew's effective teaching methods not only clarified complex concepts but also made the learning process enjoyable. So grateful for his dedication. Highly recommend Andrew for anyone seeking a reliable and talented discrete math tutor!

Recommended tutor

Andrew started with the basics and covered the topic to smooth understanding. The only thing that he needs to work on is organizing his steps on paper for easy study.

Patient and engaging

This was our first session. Drew and my son reviewed the basics of trigonometry, the Pythagorean theorem, and methods for proving the similarity or congruence of triangles. My son was very engaged. Looking forward to the next session!

best math teacher

Drew is one of the best tutors/teachers I’ve ever had. I’m personally very bad at math, but he makes things insanely easier to understand with the way he breaks everything down and explains it to you in a way that makes more sense than a university professor could ever. Great teacher, would definitely recommend for anyone struggling in discrete math.

Fantastic tutor for discrete math

Have gone over a variety of topics, including sets, incursion, recursion and more. His expertise is evident, and is very patient and an excellent explainer. Highly recommend !

amazing teacher, perfect pacing

Broke down the concept and explained the why with the how. Love his style of teaching stoked to do more lessons with him. Also helped me see that if I step back and try to simplify the problem and find small steps to move forward, I may realize I understand it better than first thought.
