I hold two Bachelor degrees, one in Wildlife and Conservation Biology and one in Biology, and I am a certified Biology teacher. My academic background spans a wide range of life and environmental sciences including ecology, aquatic ecology, environmental science, botany, and ornithology, giving me the ability to tutor well beyond the standard high school curriculum.
I am currently in my fifth year as a full time high school science teacher. Throughout my career I have worked exclusively with high school juniors and seniors, teaching AP Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, and Forensic Science in a traditional classroom setting. I am also trained to administer the Next Generation Science Assessment and actively incorporate Next Generation Science Standards into my curriculum. Additionally, my school places a strong emphasis on SAT preparation, and much of my course content is deliberately aligned with SAT science reasoning, giving me firsthand familiarity with what students need to succeed on standardized tests.
My approach to one on one tutoring focuses on building genuine conceptual understanding rather than surface level memorization. In courses like AP Biology and Anatomy and Physiology, students often struggle because they are memorizing isolated facts without seeing the bigger picture. I help students build a strong mental framework first so that the details actually stick. I am especially passionate about working with students who feel like science is not for them, because that feeling almost always comes from never having had the material explained in a way that made sense to them personally.
