My name is PJ and I passionately believe that education is about “People! Human beings!”

As an accomplished classroom teacher and remote tutor with a proven track record, I have two plus decades of experience with both high and middle school students of all academic levels. In my tutoring practice, I have worked with students studying for the Advanced Placement exam for the various history options and ‘coached-up’ applicants writing college/ high school application essays. My work with students has included practicing interview techniques and developing projects for competitions such as National History Day.

I also have extensive experience with those who benefit from one-time essay support and those neurodivergent students developing executive functioning skills. As an award-winning Speech and Debate coach, I am well-versed in assisting students with their oral presentations.

I offer a free initial consultation to see if your pupil and I are a good match.

I work hard to be able to ’’see’ each individual student. To do so, I typically start tutoring sessions with a brief diagnostic activity, which serves the purpose of being a ‘get to know one another’ task which allows me to evaluate a learner’s skills. I provide targeted feedback to support each individual. As practical, I ask for students to share with me examples of their work prior to our first meeting in order to allow me to best prepare for our time together.

I possess an active teacher’s license from the Massachusetts Department of Education in Social Studies. Previously, I earned an MA in history from the University of Wisconsin, a MAT from Simmons University, and a BA from the College of Wooster.

I have been recognized as an’Outstanding Educator’ by the University of Chicago, nominated by a former student.

I believe that my energy, experience, and commitment to all students make me an excellent candidate to tutor your child, and very much look forward to the opportunity to discuss how best to support your student.

Personal Statements

Personal Statements

I have supported and consulted students writing their college admissions essay for five plus years formally and longer informally. I work very hard to share the best version of themselves in their common apps and supplemental essays. The 'Be remembered for the right reasons and not the wrong ones' approach works similarly for graduate school and competitive high school admissions. I am passionate about serving as a brainstorming partner, providing targeted feedback. I put particular stress on evaluating if a given essay or essays 'make sense' for each student's admissions pitch in the context of their whole application. Pupils have gained admission to numerous Ivy League and other highly selective colleges.
