ADHD

I have approximately 8 years experience working with children with ADD/AHD.I have worked as both a 1:1 aide and classroom teacher for students that struggle with these issues. In my studies in special education, I have studied a great deal about the symptoms and consequences of ADD/ADHD. I believe I have a good grasp of the best practices that will help students succeed.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have worked as a classroom teacher with children from grades K-6, teaching such subjects as math, science, history, English, reading & character education. I have also worked with younger students as an assistant teacher. In the past, I have been called on to assist in an elementary classroom in a private school. I am currently employed as a science/special education teacher in Chelsea, MA.

Elementary Math

I have worked both as a middle school math teacher and a math tutor with a wide range of students.

English

I have a BA in English from Umass Amherst, and have years of experience teaching literature, writing and grammar.

Literature

I have a B.A. in English Literature from Umass Amherst. I have also worked as a classroom English teacher for middle and high school students. I am licensed to teach English for grades 5-12 in the state of Massachusetts.

Prealgebra

I am currently employed as a middle school mathematics/special education teacher. I also have a great deal of experience tutoring students in math from many different backgrounds.

Proofreading

I have worked with many students of all ages and grade levels on writing assignments.

Reading

I have a BA in English literature from Umass Amherst, and a master's degree in special education. I have worked as a reading tutor and an English teacher. I have a wealth of experience working with students from all age groups and backgrounds.

Special Needs

I have licensure in both English for grades 5-12 and Special Education for Students with Moderate Disabilities through the state of Massachusetts. I have a master's degree in special education from Bay Path College. I have worked with students with all forms of special needs, including children with ADHD, children on the autism spectrum, children with cognitive issues, and children with behavioral concerns. I have also worked for the past two years as a math/special education teacher at a treatment center in Natick. I have also worked as a tutor with low income youth through another learning center. My approach to teaching is to build a relationship with my students through trust and understanding their point of view. While I do expect students to work hard, I never give them more than they can handle, and I aim to be mindful of their current state of mind. Also, I try to bring some fun into what we are trying to accomplish through the use of inventive games and activities.

Spelling

I have worked as both an English and Special Education teacher with a wide range of students. I have also taught reading and reading strategies, and have worked as a tutor for many years.

Study Skills

I have worked with a large number of students who have needed guidance concerning their study habits and organization systems. I have also worked with students with executive functioning and ADD/ADHD, and these are areas where students usually need assistance with staying on top of their class requirements.

Writing

I have assisted many students with drafting, editing and proofreading their essays.
