I combine my teaching with humor and real-life experiences. I started as a volunteer with one on one, but have mostly worked with groups of any number. I have been teaching grammar for more than 25 years. I will determine the level of the student's knowledge and design my lessons to meet that need.

I have been teaching reading and phonics for 25 years. I currently teach a group of literacy-level immigrants. We started at the vowel sounds. I have studied tongue and moth formations to make the appropriate sounds.

I have been teaching presentation skills for 25 years. I teach all levels of speaking and listening, especially to non-native speakers. I love to use news articles to talk about and to present opinions on.I also use pieces on American Culture to present after reading.

I love to read and to teach reading. I have much material to draw from from beginning to advanced reading topics. Fluency and comprehension are, of course, very important skills to focus on.
Vocabulary

Vocabulary

Learning vocabulary is critical to having command of any language. With a beginning student, I begin with simple vocabulary, word families and flash cards. As the student advances, I introduce reading for context and more advanced vocabulary. I am qualified to teach English as a second language, which includes many forms of teaching vocabulary including reading comprehension activities, discussing current events and conversations on many topics.

I have also taught writing to GED students and to advanced ESOL students.
