I earned my PhD in Mathematics from Brown University and after an earlier career as a professor I have spent more than 20 years applying mathematics, statistics, and quantitative methods to real-world problems in finance and risk management. I love mathematics, but just as importantly, I enjoy explaining it clearly and helping students get to the point where a difficult concept suddenly makes sense.

My approach to tutoring mathematics is focused on understanding rather than memorization. Derivatives, integrals, limits, optimization - all topics, even those more advanced or simpler than these - become much easier when you understand what the mathematics is actually doing and why the techniques work. I try to build that intuition first, then connect it to the equations and problem-solving methods students need for homework and exams.
I can help with high school and college calculus, as well as other classes ranging from mid-level high school mathematics through advanced college topics.
Every student is different, so I adapt the lesson to what you need. We can work carefully through a topic from the beginning, diagnose where you're getting stuck, prepare for an upcoming exam, or tackle challenging problems together. My goal isn't simply to get you through the next problem - it’s to help you develop enough understanding and confidence that you can solve the next one on your own.
While I'm not new to tutoring I am new to the site and am discounting my initial online rates to build up my portfolio of reviews. I won't raise rates on existing students as I raise my rates up to fair market levels once I've started to attract students.
