I am experienced, patient, knowledgeable and I love to teach physics and math. I have more than 15 years of teaching and tutoring experience including five years working as a high school physics and math instructor. In September 2021, I completed a PhD in condensed matter physics at Florida State University/National High Magnetic Field Laboratory. While in graduate school I was a TA every semester. The classes I taught included engineering physics and quantum mechanics. My dissertation research was in the area of superconducting electronics.

In addition to holding a PhD in physics, I graduated from Columbia University in NYC with a bachelors degree in applied physics. I also graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a Masters degree in physics. While at Columbia University I was an undergraduate physics tutor. During my time at JHU I taught the undergraduate physics laboratory for 2 years. My masters thesis was in the field of non conventional superconductivity and neutron scattering.

After graduating from Johns Hopkins I spent five years working as a teacher at the York school, one of the top private high schools in California. I taught physics, AP physics, AP calculus, precalculus, 8th grade science and Java programming. I also have two years of industry experience working as an RF electrical engineer in silicon valley. I have many years of experience helping students prepare for the SAT and standardized tests. I scored a perfect score on the math portion of the GRE and I scored in the 93rd percentile of the physics GRE subject test.

If you need help with math or physics I am sure I an help! love to teach math an physics!

Calculus

Calculus

I have multiple degrees in physics and all of the physics classes I have taken hinge heavily on the use and understanding of Calculus. In addition, as a high school math and physics teacher I taught AP calculus three times and had a great deal of success preparing the students for the AP Calculus test. I think it is important to show big picture and the concepts of calculus first. Without seeing the overall picture it is very easy to get caught up in just doing calculations and memorizing formulas. In my experience, when that happens, students don't learn and have often have less success on the exams.
Differential Equations

Differential Equations

I have taken 3 classes in differential equations. I am a physics PhD student and have completed all of the core physics PhD classes. These classes all hinge heavily on the use and understanding of differential equations.
Discrete Math

Discrete Math

I have a minor in applied math from Columbia University. One of the many math classes I took was Discrete Math. I have also tutored for this subject in the past.
Linear Algebra

Linear Algebra

I have taken many classes in differential equations at the undergraduate and graduate level. In addition I have taken more than 8 full semesters of quantum mechanics. Quantum mechanics is the branch of physics that explains the laws of atoms and subatomic particles. The mathematics of Quantum Mechanics is linear algebra.
Physics

Physics

I have taken every undergraduate physics class and all of the core graduate classes in physics. In addition I have taken and passed the physics qualifying exam at Johns Hopkins University and at FSU. I took the physics GRE and scored in the 92 percentile. As a high school teacher I taught 9 sections of physics and 3 sections of AP physics. I have prepared students for the AP Physics test and over 80% of my students received a 4 or 5. I have also prepared students for SAT 2 subject test in physics. In addition I have over 15 years of physics tutoring experience.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I taught precalculus for three years as a high school math teacher.

Good teacher, very patient

Jacob provided an excellent review of kinematics, focusing on velocity, time, acceleration, and speed. The tutor effectively explained the concepts and guided me through various homework problems. Their clear explanations and hands-on approach helped solidify my understanding and improved my problem-solving skills. Overall, I feel much more confident in kinematics thanks to their support. Highly recommended!
