Hey - I'm Leyad! I'm an incoming junior at Brown University, where I am majoring in Public Policy & International Relations. Throughout high school and college, I've had a wide variety of incredible professors and teachers, and they all share one distinct trait: they pair a clear passion for the subject they teach with a willingness to implement student input and interactivity. This directly informs my tutoring style, which emphasizes the centrality of the student's needs and ensures that the student takes an active role in their own learning process. As a teacher, I seek to not just help the student comprehend the material, but also to inspire the student's own interest in the topic. As I've learned from my greatest teachers over the years, this can only be accomplished through open-mindedness, patience, and interactivity.
I have a year of experience tutoring middle school students in general math and science as a high school student, and 3 years of experience editing and proofreading my friends' essays, speeches, college admissions essays, cover letters, and resumés - today, I am happy to help with any form of test prep, writing, editing, proofreading, public speaking, or college applications. In high school, I received the Brown University Book Award, which rewards "excellence in written and spoken language". I have further developed my writing skills as a student at Brown University (and multimedia journalist with the Brown Political Review), where my major includes a wide range of writing-intensive courses. Finally, my background as a Research Assistant at Mass General-Brigham, Harvard University, and the City University of New York has developed my critical thinking and analysis skills, which I aim to impart to my students in each lesson.
