I'm a neuroscientist and pharmacologist with experience spanning academia, pharmaceutical R&D, biotechnology, and entrepreneurship. I love helping students move beyond memorization to develop a deeper understanding of biology and how to think critically about scientific problems.

I'm a neuroscientist and pharmacologist with experience spanning academia, pharmaceutical R&D, biotechnology, and entrepreneurship. I love helping students move beyond memorization to develop a deeper understanding of biology and how to think critically about scientific problems.
I've taught a variety of subjects at the Harvard Extension School including several writing intensive courses and spent my career leading research programs from early discovery through preclinical development. Along the way I've mentored undergrad and graduate students, postdocs, and scientists on persuasive admissions essay writing and graduate application prep, experimental design, scientific and grant writing, data analysis & interpretation, presentations, and career development.
Whether you're preparing for an application, exam or job interview; tackling problem sets or case studies; writing an essay, fellowship or manuscript; designing experiments or thinking about career options; or someone who wants to understand science in the news better, I tailor each session to your goals. I enjoy explaining difficult concepts in ways that are intuitive and memorable, while helping build confidence in your scientific reasoning.
I particularly enjoy working with upper-level undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, but I'm also happy to work with motivated high school students preparing for advanced coursework.

Clear communication and audience targeting are two of the most important skills a scientist can develop. Throughout my career I've taught several writing intensive courses, written manuscripts, grant applications, scientific reports, presentations, patents, and investment pitches across a broad range of scientific audiences. I've mentored students and colleagues in improving the content, clarity and organization of their writing from college essays to book chapters to executive summaries. I can help with planning, organization, editing, scientific arguments, proofreading, and developing a clear writing style. My goal is to help students become stronger, more confident and persuasive writers rather than simply editing their work. My philosophy is that every type of scientific writing is persuasive. You at least need to persuade the reader your piece is worth reading.

My Ph.D. in Biological Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology provided a strong foundation in molecular genetics, gene regulation, and modern biomedical research. I've studied genetic diseases and therapeutic interventions. My PhD work focused on genetic and transcription regulation. I enjoy helping students understand genetics from first principles, connecting inheritance, molecular biology, and gene function to disease and experimental research.
Neuroscience

Following my Ph.D., I completed postdoctoral training in neuroscience and have spent more than 14 years studying the biology of the nervous system in both academic and industry settings. My experience spans molecular and cellular neuroscience, systems neuroscience, neuropharmacology, neuroanatomy, applying omics within the nervous system and translational research across neurodevelopment, aging, neurological and psychiatric disorders. I have taught colleague level courses in neurobiology and medical neuroanatomy. I enjoy helping students connect concepts across different levels of neuroscience—from molecules and cells to neural circuits and behavior—so the material becomes intuitive rather than overwhelming. Whether you're preparing for coursework, qualifying exams, or journal clubs, I'll tailor each session to your specific goals.

I earned my Ph.D. in Biological Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology from Harvard Medical School and have spent my career applying pharmacology in both academic research and the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry. I enjoy helping students understand core pharmacology concepts from in vitro to in vivo systems including receptor signaling, pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, dose-response relationships, and experimental design while connecting these principles to real-world biomedical research. Whether you're preparing for an exam, interpreting primary literature, designing experiments, or analyzing and interpreting results I focus on helping you build a deep understanding of the science rather than memorizing facts.
