I lived in China for a total of 6 plus years. I taught English in China most of that time. I led many groups of Milton Academy students to China on our 6 week summer exchange. Spent most of my time in China in Harbin, in the Northeast, where Mandarin is the most standard. In China, I've been a father, husband, teacher, student, boss, worker, and had every life experience in a Mandarin Language setting.
Due to these above experiences, I can honesty say I have honed my Chinese skill to a level seldom seen in a non-native speaker. I have complete faith in my ability.
I am a native of Springfield and also speak unaccented English. After teaching 15 summers off and on in China, I also have confidence in my TESOL ability.
I had a major stroke three months ago leaving my sound a little worse for the wear. I am getting better, and clearly speak both languages, but I might have the occasional problem speaking. I think I will be able to be more willing to negotiate on the rate as a result. Give it a try, new to me as well.
