I have been a teacher for 10 years. My undergraduate degree is in History with minors in Secondary Education and Psychology. I earned my Master's of Education in Special Education.

I have experience teaching a variety of students in several settings. At the start of my career, I taught History at a residential school for Special Education students with intense trauma and emotional needs. I transitioned to a public school where I now teach English and Academic Support classes. I am also the Special Education Department Coordinator, similar to a Department Head. I have also tutored students online for 2 years with extenuating circumstances which have kept them from attending in a traditional school setting.

In my English classes, we focus on reading and writing skills. I often use graphic novels and audiobooks to ensure that all of my students can access the content and enjoy their experiences while reading. I utilize graphic organizers for all writing and work with students to break down our longer assignments and homework into manageable tasks.

In my Academic Support classes, we work on study skills, test prep, executive functioning, reading, writing, digital literacy, and post-grad skills (interviews, cover letters, resumes, financial literacy, college applications, etc.).

Reading & Writing Support for ADHD/Special Ed Student

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! I cannot say enough wonderful things about Shannon!!!! My high schooler has ADHD and many academic challenges and Shannon was able to help guide him in reading comprehension and writing, while making sure he did all the work. I knew she was special when, at our first conversation, she was able to read my son’s handwriting and recognize the points he was trying to make! Her experience as a special ed teacher is invaluable, and she always had useful suggestions for online resources my son and I could use to help improve his academic skills. Looking forward to reaching out to her again in the new school year!
