I began teaching in 1992 at a private school for language based learning disabilities. I taught their for five years before leaving to have a family. During my years as a stay at home mom, I had four children (2 boys and 2 girls). My oldest son is now in college. My oldest daughter will be starting college in the Fall. Then I have twins who will be in eighth grade.
When my twins were in kindergarten, I became a substitute teacher for 2 years. As they entered second grade, I decided to get back into teaching full-time. I became a special education teacher at the middle school level. I have been working at the same school ever since then. I currently work with students in grade five and six.
I have just completed all course work to become a Reading Specialist and will be completing my practicum in the Fall. As a Special Education teacher, I have been trained in teaching reading and teach reading interventions every day.
All lesson I teach are directly based on common core standards.
In grade 5, I am an inclusion teach in both Math and ELA. If students are working on projects in Science and Social Studies, I also support them in these classes.
I enjoy teaching phonics. I have been trained in and use Linda Mood Bells' Seeing Stars program.
I truly love teaching and helping students succeed in their learning.
