Hi! I'm Luke, a student at Skidmore College studying Mathematics. I excelled in high school, receiving top grades and honors credit in all of my math classes, including 3 math classes taken at a local community college. I scored a near-perfect 790 on the math SAT, and I was recruited for my school's team in the M3 Math Modeling Challenge. In every math class I've taken, I've always found that what mattered the most to me is the teacher. The best teachers are not just engaging in class but...
The best teachers are not just engaging in class but also make sure every one of there students is confident in their abilities outside of the classroom.
I have over a year of experience tutoring high-school students in math. I worked in a study class where I helped anyone who came to me, and I also worked privately with some students in specific classes including geometry and algebra II. I believe tutoring should be largely student-driven to maximize engagement, retention, and efficacy. While I try to ensure my lessons align with the student's curriculum in school, I always leave room at the end of my sessions to answer any questions the student has. A lifelong musician, I also believe consistent practice is the key to mastering difficult concepts and skills. I expect the students I work with to be committed to learning math outside of our lessons, so I assign targeted practice problems and review materials to reinforce the concepts we cover.
I want to help all of my students grow in the best way possible for them, and I know that can look very different depending on the student, so I am open to any suggestions students or parents can provide. Feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a lesson!
