If you are eager to play the guitar with confidence, skillfulness, and joy, but are nervous about learning an instrument, I would love to help you. The guitar can be a difficult instrument for multiple reasons, and the learning curve can be challenging. With the right teacher, the process of learning the guitar can be exciting, surprising, rewarding, and not as hard as you might think.
I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Music Therapy, with dual concentrations in Classical Guitar and Composition, and a minor in Psychology. For 4 years, I have been providing my students with thoughtful and idiomatic direction and insights based on my 15 years of studying and playing music and the guitar. I have experience in multiple styles of music such as classical, jazz, funk, soul, metal, folk, country, and alternative, as well as all styles of guitar (acoustic, electric, classical). Given that I studied classical composition, I am also able to offer composition, as well as music theory lessons.
While I am a classically-trained musician with a degree in music therapy, I primarily work in psychological research, studying mindfulness at Harvard Medical School. Using my background in guitar and music therapy, combined with methods grounded in behavioral principles of learning and mindfulness, I am able to provide my students with a unique learning experience -- one that's low-stress, highly flexible, efficient, intrinsically motivating, and energizing.
My greatest qualities as a tutor are that I am incredibly patient and encouraging, and I am very flexible and resourceful in the ways that I teach concepts. I also have experience teaching with a wide age range, from 7 to 65, as well as teaching students who are on the autism spectrum that may have sensory sensitivities. I love tutoring because I deeply enjoy helping students reach their musical goals, and experience the same benefits it has brought me.
