My tutoring method introduces topics creatively, follows with explicit instruction, then student practice. I customize lessons in English, Spanish, and Hebrew focusing on vocabulary, grammar, and reading comprehension. I help students identify their strengths and areas to improve.

ESL/ESOL

ESL/ESOL

I am Miriam. I am licensed to teach Elementary Education/ ESL and Spanish. From elementary school to professionals at Harvard Summer School, I enjoy working with students to improve oral fluency and written communication skills in English. I create a positive environment so students can feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and so their talents and abilities can shine. The most rewarding experience is when students recognize their own improvement and growth. I teach adults and children. I teach one-to-one as well as in a group setting, online and face to face. I look forward to speaking with you soon!
Flute

Flute

I have been playing the flute since elementary school, when I played in marching band and orchestra. I taught beginning and intermediate flute students in the El Sistema afterschool program. I can sight read music, but I often play by ear. I play in local bands and ensembles, including international folk music and jazz. I also play piccolo, penny whistle, fife, guitar and ukulele. I have taught students from elementary school to senior citizens and know that it's never too late to start playing an instrument. My favorite thing about teaching is to give a positive encouragement. Each note is a step forward towards learning and perfecting. Whether you are young or old, brand new or already play an instrument, it is never too late to revive your desire to play. Play for an audience, in a group, for yourself or for your grandchildren. Why not give it a try?

¡Hola! My name is Miriam, and I teach and tutor ESL, Spanish and Hebrew. I was brought up in a bilingual household and I was always fascinated by languages and cultures. I graduated college cum laude in International Studies with a minor in Spanish. I have traveled Mexico, Spain, Peru and Nicaragua - but I became fluent in Spanish at home! How? By enjoying music, culture and movies and by working in my community where I interpret for native Spanish-speakers. I love working with new students to help them meet their goals, and I hope to meet you soon!

Very professional.

Miriam is an excellent music teacher, she is also an incredibly efficient and responsive professional, going beyond the technical difficulties, and trying to solve the communication issues in the initial sessions. She is also lovely and friendly, inspiring our daughter to learn more when she provides homework and exercises to improve our daughter's execution. Her interest in our culture is worth mentioning when she works with Emely on our folk songs. Overall, it has been a pleasurable and rewarding experience along these lessons, so I highly recommend her.

Knowledgable and patient teacher

Miriam is kind and patient with my son. She is very good at learning about my son’s abilities and interests so that he can play songs he enjoys listening to. She makes lessons fun and challenging, he is learning at a just-right level. At the end of lessons, Miriam records my son playing a song so that he can listen to it later and improve.

Exceptionally Good Spanish Teacher

Miriam is an exceptionally good Spanish teacher. She worked regularly with our student for almost a year to get him up to speed on Spanish 1. Not only did he not dread the lessons but she got him to score a much higher grade in school. We had her tutor him for as long as he took Spanish in school
