I'm a recent graduate from Bowdoin College in Maine. While I was at Bowdoin I doubled majored in English and Psychology and worked for two years as a writing tutor for my fellow students. It was my job to help my writers think critically about their work and foster the development of the writing skills they needed to be successful in both high school and college. Writing is what I'm passionate about, and I love helping writers along their journey. I firmly believe that good writing is a manifestation of clear thinking, making writing one of the most important skills a person can have. Helping a student learn more about writing is an incredibly rewarding experience for me.
In order to work for Bowdoin's tutoring center, all writing tutors were required to take a semester-long education class. In this class, we learned about the best ways to teach essay writing, we developed our skills as critical readers, and practiced tutoring techniques to help us best help our writers. On top of this education course and my experience as a tutor, I also worked closely with a professor to develop a collection of creative nonfiction essays that was published as an honors project by Bowdoin. This process helped me grow as an editor, and the experience has been invaluable in tutoring.
