Hi, I'm Jess! I've been working as a math tutor for over 10 years and am currently a high school math teacher. I have taught Algebra, Geometry, PreCalculus and SAT Prep courses. Hi, I'm Jess! I've been working as a math tutor for over 10 years and am currently a high school math teacher. I have taught Algebra, Geometry, PreCalculus and SAT Prep courses. While getting my dual degrees in Mathematics (with a focus in teaching) and Music (Opera) I was the head math tutor for UMass Amherst's football team. I have extensive experience working with students on Individual Education Program (IEPs and 504s) and feel comfortable making accommodations and modifications to best fit a student's needs and learning style. Additionally, I have licenses in 5-12 math education for the state of Massachusetts.

I'm passionate about finding learning methods that tailor each student's needs and interests, which allows them to feel confident in their abilities. For example, I try to always find real life applications in our math tutoring that help connect and engage my students in their own learning. It's crucial in our experience together to strengthen their critical thinking skills (not just getting the answer, but understanding the process to it). I also enjoy helping students stay organized and ahead of their assignments, focusing on executive functioning skills that will help them succeed beyond school. I'm happy to work with students on college and career preparation. Most importantly, I look to connect with my students and help them find their confidence and joy in whatever area of expertise they are looking to master!

My math tutoring is successful because of my focus on critical thinking and problem solving skills. When we work together on a problem, I make sure my student is engaged and curious in finding solutions. I always encourage students to show their work and often ask them to "teach it back" to me to make sure that they understand the steps in the problem solving process. Additionally, I always strive to make the process fun and engaging by finding real world applications and examples!

Jess is by far one of the best tutors I have ever had. I have used a few tutors through wyzant and they all new there stuff but Jess was able to explain the information in a way that I did not feel dumb but that I was actually learning. When I started working with Jess the subject was not my favorite and I dreaded having to work on the homework. Now I look forward to every session I have with Jess as it is like talking to my long lost friend and she provided a profession yet fun environment to learn. My grade jumped a letter grade and homework and test all began to improve. Jess cares about the students that she is working with and I HIGHLY recommend her to anyone needing help in Statics.
