Bio

Hi, I'm Sam, a recent Cornell University graduate and a current Tufts University Computer Science PhD student.
I have been tutoring for the past 5 years in Computer Science, Logic, Mathematics and Linguistics. With a proven track record of increasing students' grades from Cs and Ds to As, I can happily provide short term critical need prior to tests and quizzes (e.g. providing study guides, test taking strategies, past papers).

Hi, I'm Sam, a recent Cornell University graduate and a current Tufts University Computer Science PhD student.
I have been tutoring for the past 5 years in Computer Science, Logic, Mathematics and Linguistics. With a proven track record of increasing students' grades from Cs and Ds to As, I can happily provide short term critical need prior to tests and quizzes (e.g. providing study guides, test taking strategies, past papers).

I also enjoy teaching full length courses. In addition to providing ample review exercises (homework, programming exercises, problem sets etc.) which supplement the taught material, I make sure to immediately identify, address and fill in any gaps within students' pre-requisite knowledge.

College level courses I tutor in include: introductory programming (Python/Java), object-oriented programming and data structures, introduction to symbolic/deductive logic, modal logic, discrete/proof-based mathematics, linguistics, experimental/computational linguistics, audio perception, natural language processing, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.

High school courses I regularly tutor in include: Algebra 1/2, Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus AB/BC, AP Computer Science A/Principles, AP English Lit, SAT, ACT.

-On the SAT, all of my students have been receiving 1470 and above.
-On the AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC and AP Computer Science A, AP Computer Science Principles exams, all of my students have been receiving 5s.

Besides tutoring, I also help students with college admissions. I work on constructing essays and plans of action that help the students get into their desired schools. Students I have recently coached have gotten into the following schools: Columbia University, Tufts University, Cornell University, Vanderbilt University, Johns Hopkins, University of California San Diego, Northeastern University, University of Washington, amongst many others.

Sam was a terrific tutor for AP Computer Science Principles. He provided very useful topic review and helped identify areas that required more review and practice. He taught her very effective preparation and programming techniques so she could understand how to successfully code. He was high energy and was able to provide creative practice techniques to help her prepare for the AP test.

Sam was extremely supportive and helpful prepping me for my computational linguistics college final exam. He went over each topic carefully, and gave very clear demonstrations of each learning algorithm (Naive Bayes, neural networks, HMM Viterbi, CKY parsing). We worked on multiple examples for each algorithm (both with toy data and language data, and worked on a sample of other exam problems that Sam provided. Computational linguistics is hard, but I feel very confident going into my exam later this week thanks to these sessions.
