About Theresa

My love of teaching comes from a life long love of learning. I know that hard work and dedication to learning pays off with higher grades and test scores.

With an undergraduate degree in English from Colby College, a Master of Education from Harvard Graduate School of Education, and a doctorate in American History from University of New Hampshire, I have had the privilege of working with students from selective liberal arts, Ivy league, and public, land grant institutions.

Currently, I teach both lecture-based and writing-intensive seminars in the Communication Department at Boston College.

My educational background and professional experience lends itself nicely to working with and tutoring all types of students.

I specialize in tutoring Public Speaking, American History, and English. My goals include making the subject matter relevant, interactive, and fun. I enjoy what I do and bring positivity to the process for all students.

I try to be flexible with time. While I do have a 24-hour cancellation policy, I offer make up classes.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve success in your studies.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

American History

I have a Ph.D. in history from University of New Hampshire. I love history and I would be happy to help any student prepare for exams.

Public Speaking

I teach in the Communication Department at the college level. I teach a lecture-based course entitled American Public Address that I designed on significant speeches from 1945-the present. It is a dynamic course that is powerful, pragmatic, and poetic. I also teach writing-intensive seminars that include student presentations that I prepare the students to deliver. I love my job and would consider it a privilege to tutor for your organization.
