Trilingual English Language Teacher

Hello! I'm Rafael V., a first generation trilingual English teacher with a wide range of community service and professional experiences. I am fluent in English, Portuguese, and Spanish, possess a Bachelors' of Science Degree in Environmental Engineering, and a Qualifi Level 5 Diploma in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. I currently teach Level 1 English to Adults at a local adult learning center.

My love for teaching began as a peer tutor and mentor at the University of Hampshire where I tutored Calculus and Chemistry while obtaining my engineering degree. Later as an AmeriCorps NCCC Team Leader, I gained even greater experience in mentoring with my team of 7 young adults as we volunteered as wild land firefighters across 6 U.S. states. Now, as a certified English as a Foreign Language teacher, I am following the culmination of my passion for assisting others in reaching their goals, and skills in language and delivering subject matter.

Research shows that language is best acquired in a relaxed, playful setting that welcomes mistakes and encourages experimentation. That is the environment I strive to create in our sessions as we build your fluency and grammar in the four domains of language: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Using a mix of the PPP (Present, Practice, Produce) and TTT (Test, Teach, Test) methods, I will guide you through English language concepts by modeling, providing controlled practice, then creating prompts that encourage you to use your cumulative knowledge in a minimally guided setting.
