Hello! I am a UC Berkeley alum with a BA in Planetary Science who is excited about sharing my expertise with middle and high school students. I have experience tutoring math students at a range of levels, from basic arithmetic and pre-algebra, to high school calculus. I spent five months as a tutor in the Teton County school district. The subjects I tutored there were fifth and sixth grade math, pre-algebra, algebra 1 and 2, geometry, calculus 1, and physics 1 (mechanics). I have an additional five months of experience providing private math tutoring to middle and high school students. The subjects I specialize in teach foundational math skills that set the stage for the rest of a student's academic career, so I emphasize understanding the underlying concepts, instead of just memorizing homework shortcuts.
I am also available for SAT and ACT math tutoring. I scored a 1530 on the SAT on my first attempt, and I am well-versed in typical test prep strategies. Not only can I help students with the content of the test, but I can teach test prep strategies such as how to use the allotted time wisely and quickly eliminate wrong answers. Finally, I am also available to tutor middle and high school earth science and environmental science. My degree gives me valuable expertise in both fields, as I took courses in everything from geology to astrophysics, to earth and natural history. Additionally, I taught an astronomy themed elementary after school program, where I learned to break down complicated scientific topics for younger learners.
My preferred format for any tutoring session is to start by working through some example problems together, and to then have the student try some problems independently. Please let me know what your goals are! I can help with homework, catching up in a course you are struggling with, or even getting ahead for the next school year.
