Hi, I'm Tapan! I graduated from the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in Computer Science. After college, I worked at General Motors for about 5 years in a variety of roles applying what I learned in school to real world problems - this is when concepts really started clicking for me.
I first started teaching as part of a volunteer program where I taught an Intro to Computer Science class at a local high school. What began as a unique way to give back to the community grew into a passion of mine. It was really rewarding to see students grow throughout the year from having no experience with coding to being able to complete fairly complex projects. I designed and implemented a curriculum for the class focused on understanding fundamentals and flexibility to accommodate the learning pace of each individual student. I learned to explain complex, unfamiliar concepts in simple and relatable ways.
In total I have about 2 years of volunteering teaching in a classroom environment specifically for high school aged students. Though my experience is primarily with computer science courses, I am able to tutor for any STEM related courses as well (Algebra, Geometry, Pre-Calc, Physics, etc) given my educational background and transferrable skills from my teaching experiences.
I want to benefit the students I work with as much as possible and welcome continuous feedback on what is working well and what is not so I can make necessary adjustments.
