Hello, thanks for taking the time to look at my profile.
I'm a 21 year old senior studying International Relations and Arabic at American University. After I graduate, my current goal is to work for a humanitarian aid organization such as CARE international or the International Rescue Committee. Studying international relations, I have written numerous research papers and articles about topics relating to history, culture, and current events. As an Arabic minor, I have also studied the Arabic Language (MSA and Shaami) and have learned how to speak, read and write the language at an Advanced level. I am also able to read, write and speak Portuguese. Outside of class, I love to play music. I have been playing guitar and bass for over 10 years now, and have taken lessons in jazz and bass guitar for over 8 years. I have experience playing in jazz combos around Washington D.C. and am a member of the American University big band.
I have over 1 years experience tutoring a variety of subjects. At my school, I worked with the Jubilee Housing Project's after school program. The Jubilee Housing Project is located in the Kalorama neighborhood of Washington D.C. and provides a number of services for residents of that neighborhood, including tutoring for children in that area. During my time tutoring there, I helped children with their homework and classwork on topics ranging from, algebra, reading, writing, science and even music. Outside of this I also have informal experience tutoring new members of my university's jazz band to help them develop reading and soloing skills on guitar and bass.
My tutoring approach is best suited for students with learning disabilities such as ADHD or Executive Functioning Disorder. As someone who suffers from the former and has many friends who suffer from the latter, and having worked with students who've suffered from both, I am able to empathize with students who have these disabilities and work with them in a way that is not stressful.
