About Dan

Bio

I am currently in my third year of teaching Latin full-time. Prior to this, I got my MAT in Latin and Classical Humanities from UMass Amherst! I love talking about Latin and helping students understand the nuances of the language. I am trained in both proficiency-based teaching and more traditional grammar-translation teaching, and am more than happy to help with whatever my students' desires/needs are in learning the language!

I believe that everyone is able to learn a language, and language learning (and learning in general) should be enjoyable and not feel like a chore. Studies show that students learn best when they are engaged and interested in the topic, so I aim to make Latin as enjoyable as possible while still maintaining a rigorous curriculum.

I love to read anything and everything. Because of this, I have learned how to properly write a paper (in terms of spelling, grammar, flow, etc.) and a knowledge of Latin has led to me being able to articulate the reasons why grammatical structures are the way they are in different sentences.

Latin

I am a Latin teacher. I have an MAT in Latin and Classical Humanities, and have spent a total of 10 years studying Latin. I have done Latin immersion events as well, spanning from one day to an entire week speaking only in Latin. I currently teach using both proficiency-based methods and grammar-translation methods. I am happy to tutor students using whichever methodology is most appropriate for their goals!

Reading

I've loved to read ever since I first learned. Over the years I've become a very fast reader and have learned how to pick out the important details in whatever I'm reading. My knowledge of Latin helps me understand the grammar of what I am reading as well.
Writing

Writing

Writing has always been enjoyable to me. Throughout my school career I've written countless essays. My love of reading also has played into my writing by teaching me how to write in a way that makes the reader want to hear what I have to say. Finally, my knowledge of Latin lets me understand grammatical constructions in depth and it has also broadened my vocabulary.
