Hello! My name is Faryal, and I graduated high school with honors. Now, I am continuing my education at Brandeis, planning to double major in economics and international and global studies with a minor in legal studies on the pre-law track.
I have been tutoring for over two years and have found great purpose. My teaching philosophy is that if the student does not understand a concept, I must cater to their needs and support them in any way I can. I truly believe every student can learn a subject and be confident enough if given the right tools, which is something I provide them. Teachers can't help every student the exact way they need, so as tutors, it is our job to help them.
As I mentioned, every student is different. Still, I find that, especially for math, providing a brief overview with some examples to get them started and then seeing them walk through their questions worked the best so I could gauge how well they understood the content. By doing this, I engage different learning styles: visual, auditory, and experimental.
English is slightly different because it depends on the writing type; some students need more help with grammar. Thus, we would go over punctuation and basic structure rules. However, I have more trouble formulating thoughts; therefore, brainstorming productively is a tool I can help them develop.
In terms of experience, I have been a tutor for a year and have had the pleasure of working with three different students. One who was in 2nd grade, who I helped with mainly Simply Math, but also English sometimes, a 10th grader with Spanish, and another 10th grader with Chemistry and Algebra. Furthermore, I worked for a non-profit, The Refugee Dream Foundation, assisting a 7th grader with pre-calc and 7th-grade English. I have experience tutoring students of all ages but particularly enjoy middle school math and English. I would love to continue my work, so feel free to contact me to schedule appointments or if you have any questions.
