I am familiar with differentiated instruction, the Mass State Frameworks, and students' IEPs. I am very patient and I am able to explain concepts so that you will understand them. I have taught many, many students over the last 40 years and realize that each student has his or her own learning style.

I taught mathematics in a public school for thirty-three years. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics and a Master of Science Degree in Mathematics. While getting my Bachelor of Science Degree at UMASS Amherst, I took many English, history, science, psychology and language courses, as well as other courses such as art and music. I feel that I have a very varied education as well as a concentration in mathematics. I am also computer literate. Also, when I graduated from UMASS I was certified not only in mathematics but also in science. However, I taught only mathematics for my entire career.
Geometry

I have used geometry in many of my undergraduate and graduate courses. I have tutored students in geometry and have answered over 5,000 questions in WyzAnt's "Ask An Expert" section.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I taught mathematics in a public school for thirty-three years. I taught on the Junior High/Middle School level. I taught pre-algebra for many years. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics and a Master of Science Degree in Mathematics.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

I feel qualified to tutor in trigonometry because I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics and a Master of Science Degree in Mathematics. I used trigonometry in many, many math courses that I took for my Bachelor's Degree and for my Master's Degree. When you study upper level college courses in mathematics, both on the undergraduate and the graduate level, you use higher order thinking. When you look back at high school courses, the concepts appear to become easier. Even if, for example, you don't remember an identity in trigonometry, you have the thinking capacity to find it in the book, understand it, and be able to explain it to someone.

goes above and beyond - patient, knowledgeable, and engaged

I really appreciated the fact that he was truly engaged with her thought process. When my child may (or may not) have gotten an answer correct/incorrect on a particular problem, he asked her to explain how she came to that conclusion. That is such an important part of actually learning mathematics - to have the student understand her own thought process / logical (or illogical) path towards an answer.

Arthur is a great tutor. Very patent and kind. My student enjoyed her session with him and gained a better understanding of her math assignment. My student has learning disabilities so it is important for any teacher/tutor to be patient and kind. Arthur fits this profile very well.
