Hello there! I have a B.S. in Meteorology (Summa Cum Laude) from Virginia Tech with minors in Geography and Geographic Information Science and a thesis-track M.S. in Meteorology from Florida State University with research emphasis in marine meteorology and climatology. I have been a teaching assistant since my sophomore year at Virginia Tech. My undergraduate teaching experiences consisted of lab oversight and assignment administration, and I would host office hours to help students with projects, homework, and assessment prep. As a graduate teaching assistant at Florida State, I continued in those responsibilities while also taking on the instructor role where I would deliver lecture material and formally grade assignments.
I find myself to be incredibly organized and structured while simultaneously maintaining an approachable, empathetic charisma. I place a lot of value in finding ways to relate to my students and make them feel comfortable with both me and with themselves as people and learners. As a student I often felt embarrassed asking questions out of fear of "looking [sounding] stupid." I will always answer questions to the best of my ability, but I am also not afraid to admit when I am wrong or simply don't know, because I want lessons to be an honest discussion about the things we know and the things that we don't. I think that the best teachers continually learn from their students, and as I hope to formally teach some day at a high school or college, I take every tutoring experience as an opportunity to better myself as an educator!
