I graduated from Princeton University with high honors in Chemical Engineering. My father was having financial difficulties through my last two years of college, so I decided to go to MIT for graduate school in chemical engineering rather than medical school or going to work immediately. I wanted to go into environmental engineering, but it didn't exist as an independent discipline. The two professors that I wanted to work with left MIT, and I ended up doing finite element modelling of crystal growth. I just did not enjoy it, but I had enough will to beat my head against the wall for 7 years. After wasting my twenties, I found that I had a knack for communicating with teenagers and that teaching was a possibility for me. It wasn't an easy road, but I eventually settled in one community teaching AP Physics and Chemistry for 15 years. I retired early after 28 years of teaching, somewhat frustrated by how public schools are educating young people and not serving their needs. I have been doing a lot of tutoring in the last five years at all levels and I am struck by how unprepared students are and how new ideas about education like the "flipped classroom" and "inquiry learning" result in lack of skills. Students are not getting the ideas in a way that can carry over to other classes and applications, which, ultimately is the point of it all. A few years into my teaching career, I picked up a Masters in Physics Education which focused on how the content of a physics class can be transferred to students, not any secondary concerns. I love learning myself and have taken over 20 Edx courses to broaden my understanding. I am currently working towards a certificate in Data Science in order to start a new career, but I could see tutoring well into the future as it remains my favorite working activity.

I have training as a chemical engineer through the graduate level and have taught physics and chemistry at the high school and college level. I have a lot of experience actually using mathematics rather tha

Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I have tutored many students from Alg II to AP Calculus. I coached a State qualifying math team for 3 years. I am willing to formally go into the IB curriculum for mathematics in order to make sure we cover the material at the right level, hit all the concepts, and use the same nomenclature.
AMC (Competition math)

AMC (Competition math)

I coached a High School Math Team for 3 years (Used AMC Prep Books). I have tutored students to prepare for F=MA, National Engineering Competitions, IB Math, Purple Cow, Art of Problem Solving, and various olympiads. I was captain of my high school math team - I have been an avid recreational math enthusiast for years.
Calculus

Calculus

My education is in chemical engineering and I have a Masters in Physics Education. I am actually more qualified to teach Calculus than most mathematics educators as I have used it professionally up to Partial DIfferential Equations and Numerical Analysis.
Chemical Engineering

Chemical Engineering

I spent 7 years at MIT in Chemical Engineering and, although I did not get a degree, I got straight As in my classes. I also TA'd a Mass, Momentum, and Heat Transfer Course. I wrote finite element methods code for the modelling of Crystal Growth.
Chemistry

Chemistry

High Honors, Chemical Engineering, Princeton Graduate Work (A average) at MIT in Chemical Engineering
Differential Equations

Differential Equations

I took Differential Equations in Undergrad. I TA'd Transport Phenomena (PDEs) at MIT in Chemical Engineering. I did work in Finite element modelling of crystal growth. Within the last 4 years I took the three course sequence in Diff Eqns. offered by Blanchard at BU. It is a more modern, computer-based approach to the topic.
Geometry

Geometry

I have tutored math from Algebra 1 to Differential Equations. I have actually coached math teams for three years - geometry being a major part of the knowledge base.
MATLAB

MATLAB

I have taken two MATLAB Programming Courses and 3/5 Data Science Specializations on Coursera I have a background in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Statistics, Numerical Methods, and Data Science. MATLAB is often used in Chemical Engineering and Numerical Methods/Differential Equations College courses and I often have to teach the students that I tutor how to implement the MATLAB code.
Physical Science

Physical Science

I have a Chemical Engineering BSE and graduate work at MIT. I also have a Masters in Physics Education from University of VIrginia. I taught a Physical Science class at Salem State University.
Physics

Physics

BSE, high honors, Chemical Engineering - Princeton Masters in Physics Education UVA Fellow of AAPT
Precalculus

Precalculus

I have tutored many students in Precalculus which varies considerably from school to school. I have also tutored Algebra II, Trigonometry, and Calculus APs, so I am quite familiar with the content and what is needed in the future. My training as an engineer gives me a very practical approach to mathematics.
Regents

Regents

I have taught all Secondary levels of Chemistry and Physics through AP for 28 years. I have tutored students in the ACT Science, SAT Chemistry and Physics, IB Physics, and the Regents in Chemistry.
SAT Math

SAT Math

I was a National Merit Scholar. I did SAT prep for a private company for 2 years and with Varsity Tutors for 5 yrs.
SAT Reading

SAT Reading

I tutored SATs for 5 years for an SAT company using their techniques. I tutored SAT for Varsity Tutors for 5 years online and in person. I was a National Merit Scholar based on my own SATs.
Statistics

Statistics

I took Engineering Statistics in College. I have taken 9 courses towards Data Science Certification which are Applied Statistics Courses.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Jacque helped me in several different areas of Newtonian mechanics for my calculus-based physics class. He was very knowledgeable, and he gave many helpful suggestions that went beyond the practice questions that we went over together. I feel confident about taking physics II knowing that I can rely on his help when I need it.

Amazing!

Very kind and gets down everything I wanted to know, nailed my quiz on Molecular and Ionic compounds. Perfect tutor!

About Jacques

Jacques teaches at the student’s needed pace. If you only have a couple of problems, he helps you to fully understand the concepts. If there are a lot, he helps you understand what you need to know to solve them. His methods are effective and have helped me to restore my grade in physics by a significant margin. I highly recommend him!
