I am a mature and energetic teacher with much prior experience outside of teaching, which I use to bring relevance and insight to mathematics. I have also tutored one-to-one for nearly two decades, including both the most gifted of students and those who need help with the fundamentals.
My aim is always to allow pupils to progress at the pace which best suits them - to move forward swiftly when possible but to slow down and consolidate when that is necessary. Continual assessment of knowledge and understanding is the key - derived from observation and questioning. My emphasis is always on achieving deeper understanding.
I graduated from the University of Cambridge in England - one of the world's premier engineering schools, where everything (including mathematics) is brought back to first principles. I have considerable experience of applying that knowledge in the real world prior to becoming a teacher and can relate the learning to real life examples. I have taught pupils aged 11-19 in all mathematical topics and have coached individual students for their entry into universities and colleges in USA, UK, Europe and Asia. Like all good teaching, my tutoring approach is student-centred - students are given time to think, encouraged to develop their analytical and logical skills and coached in the processes necessary for successful problem-solving.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught mathematics within the US, Scottish and English education systems at the upper end of high school qualifications (AP in US terms; A Levels in English terms), all of which include algebra as a core element. Previous students of mine have gone on to study mathematics and engineering at prestigious universities on three continents.
I have taught high school math at the highest levels in the US, English and Scottish systems. I'm familiar with all aspects of the curriculum and specialize in algebra and calculus.
I have a degree in engineering - differential equations came into a large proportion of the topics covered. I have taught differential equations to Year 13 in the English school system and S6 in Scotland. I have tutored individual students on differential equations over nearly 10 years.
I have successfully taught Decision Mathematics up to Year 13 in the English system which is analogous to Discrete Mathematics the overlap is about 90%.
