Screenwriter and Author to tutor Creative Writing and English

I am a screenwriter and author (I recently had a bestselling book published) who also holds a Master's degree in Screenwriting from Boston University and a Bachelor's degree in English and Psychology from Wesleyan University. I tutor creative writing, general English composition, literature, screenplay writing and standardized test prep. I have taught from middle school to college and currently teach screenwriting at two major universities in the Boston area while also writing on the side.

I take a student-centric approach to all my work and let the individual guide the process while I provide feedback, encouragement, and structure along the way. I have always found it best to meet a student where they are at and use what already motivates them, perhaps in another area, to strengthen the area of focus for tutoring. If the student is invested in their own learning by making it seem more fun and much easier than a standard classroom, they will always do better at the subject; the teacher and methods matter immensely in education. Additionally, I think it is important to understand what hangups a particular student might have and try to remove those blocks for the future; the goal being for a student to learn enough that they may progress forward on their own instincts, without tutoring. For example, drilling common grammatical errors through training and recalibration, such as identifying "they're" always as "they are" to make sure that it could never be mistaken for "their" or "there" (I have another trick for those two words as well!)
