Hi - I'm Nahida! I graduated from Wayne State University (in Detroit, MI) magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science. I majored in Biomedical Physics and minored in Spanish. In college, I realized that the majority of teachers and students, especially in the field of STEM, were white men. I became a teacher after graduating because I wanted to show ALL students that they are capable of doing hard things and that they can strive to be the best, even if they don't see themselves represented by their peers or teachers. Math is a topic that always comes with a lot of baggage. Normally, by the time you get to middle school, you feel a certain way about whatever you believe your math ability is. My students always tell me about how "bad" they are at math, but each year I've been able to show them what they are capable of when they use their resources to their advantage and get comfortable with asking questions (to the teacher and themselves)!
I would love to work with you to grow your confidence in math. In our sessions, I will use lesson plans that introduce the topic and connect it to real-life applications. I will explicitly teach the material before we spend time practicing and creating resources to assist you in your understanding. This can include creating study guides or reference sheets to use while you complete your work.
I have been a high school math teacher for 6 years. I received my Master's in Education in Secondary Mathematics and Special Education from Rhode Island College. I worked for 3 years at a high school in Providence, RI before working in Boston Public Schools. I have been a BPS teacher for the last 3 years, working at Boston Latin School, Another Course to College, and Fenway High School. I am certified in the state of Massachusetts to teach all high school math courses. Over the last 6 years, I taught Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Statistics, and Calculus.
In addition to the math subjects listed, I can also assist students in Spanish at the beginner/intermediate level!
