I currently teach college biological anthropology, which covers cellular biology, genetics, anatomy and physiology, and human & primate evolution. I have worked as a private tutor for children, taught advanced courses to middle / high schoolers through Johns Hopkins - CTY, and served as a teaching assistant for college courses in about every subject that fits under the umbrella of biology, plus several more in chemistry and anthropology, reaching 1,000+ students along the way.

Subjects I tutor: general biology, evolutionary biology, genetics, anatomy & physiology, biochemistry, anthropology, and zoology. In tandem with these, I am also an ideal candidate for test prep, having performed well on the tests I have faced along the course of my own educational journey, including AP biology, AP chemistry, AP psychology, the SAT / ACT, and the GRE. I am also qualified to tutor for a variety of Regents exams (Living Environments, Chemistry, and Earth Science).

*I have limited availability for ISEF coaching for this year and can serve as a qualified scientist*

Feedback from my college students in their course evaluations:

"I just wanted to thank Professor H. for being such an amazing professor, I was really nervous that this class would be too hard to do. She has changed my perspective on science, it has been a subject that has given me a great deal of anxiety for a lot of my life but she (specifically) has made the world of a difference. I can tell she truly loves her job and her students so I am so grateful that I got to experience her as a professor!"

“I really liked the hands on / visual aspects that were in this course. It really helped me with understanding the key points from the text. Also, the professor's enthusiasm and humor really made this enjoyable!”

Anatomy

Anatomy

I have been teaching college biological anthropology courses, which include units on anatomy and physiology, for the past few years while pursuing my doctoral research in human evolutionary anatomy. I have delivered some of these labs in person while others I have taught online, so I am familiar with the particular challenges associated with each method of course delivery. I have taken several anatomy / physiology courses myself and subsequently have extensive wet lab experience that informs my teaching practices.
Anthropology

Anthropology

I have both instructed and assisted with various college courses in the anthropology department in which I earned my master's degree and am now currently a PhD candidate. My research focuses on paleoanthropology and evolutionary topics (so those are definitely my favorite to teach about!) but I have experience with a variety of introductory and intermediate anthropology courses in all four subdisciplines (cultural, linguistic, physical, and archaeology).
Archaeology

Archaeology

I am presently a PhD candidate researching the human fossil record. I have taken numerous courses in archaeological theory and related topics. I teach courses in the anthropology department of my university that cover both archaeology and bioarchaeology. I have ongoing field work projects as well, so can bring a panoply of experience to the table to help you out.
Biochemistry

Biochemistry

I obtained my BS in biochemistry from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and have subsequently completed my MA; currently, I'm a doctoral candidate and study evolutionary biology. Understanding the genetic machinations at a molecular level that drive billions of years of evolution on the macroscale brings me joy: sharing that knowledge brings me equal joy. I have TA'd and tutored for biochemistry, microbiology, and genetics courses in the past. I currently teach biological anthropology at a university, which begins from an understanding of sub-cellular processes and works gradually to the comprehension of macroevolutionary phenomena.

SAT Math

SAT Math

I earned a perfect 800 on the math section of the SAT which, in part, opened up the opportunity for me to go on to complete a B.S, M.A., and (soon!) a PhD. The trick to nailing the SAT isn't being a mathematical genius- it's about strategizing and practice. I can help you learn the math required for high performance on the test as well as provide support to combat testing anxiety.
Zoology

Zoology

I majored in biochemistry and obtained a minor in biology during my undergraduate studies before moving on to my MA / PhD in evolutionary biology. I have experience in comparative vertebrate anatomy and physiology, animal behavior, taxonomy, and phylogeny. My studies have included dissection and vivisection of dozens of invertebrate and vertebrate specimens. I have performed field work in biology and maintain a small collection of (non-human) osteological and fossil specimens at home.

Passionate and knowledgeable tutor

Bri was an amazing tutor who helped me understand Vertebrate Evolution on a deeper level. I struggled a lot with the class initially, but I ended up scoring an A on the final with her help! She would always start by asking questions to gauge my current knowledge, then adjust the session to focus on what I needed to focus on the most. She also provided extra resources, like her own notes, which were super helpful for studying. Bri also provided great study techniques that helped me to keep up with my fast-paced summer course. She provided me with thorough constructive feedback on my responses to my practice questions, which helped me to gain confidence for the exams. I would highly recommend her as a tutor for Evolutionary Biology.

Best Tutor ever

Bri is a very knowledgeable and personalized tutor. She helped me immensely with my genetics class and I wouldn’t have ended up with flying by a course i had previously failed. Definitely would recommend!!

Amazing, knowledgeable and patient tutor

Bri has been teaching biology and biochemistry to my daughter, who is a freshman. Bri is a true teacher! Not only Bri has a good knowledge of the subject, but she knows how to explain and how to make the subject more interesting. She is very helpful in guiding you to prepare for test, gives you resources. I also noted how patient Bri is and if my daughter did not get the material after initial explanation, Bri would adjust and change the wording, give more examples until she makes sure my daughter understood the material. I feel very grateful finding Bri!

Energetic, flexible and knowledgable tutor

My 12th grade son had a very complex research paper that he had to write. Bri provided him incredible guidance via multiple sessions. She was highly flexible with respect to meeting times and gave him insightful and efficient feedback so that he could complete his paper quickly and with excellence. Her domain expertise and ability to relate to a young person were amazing. I can't recommend her enough!

Professional, Helpful and Strategic

Since our first session working with Bri she has not only been very helpful in breaking down complex concepts but also in teaching strategies on how to approach a problem. Whether it be on a quiz, assignment, homework, practice problem, or exam. Bri teaches her clients step by step of where to start with a problem and how to connect the dots. If it weren't for Bri I don't think I would have passed my Genetics class. As someone who has a background in personal training and has not taken a high-level Genetics class (in the past), or anything similar besides Biology in undergrad. This class was very tough, especially it being online and very independent based. Bri showed that is was possible to understand these concepts and pass this class. She also provided her own practice exams based on the powerpoint slides that were sent to her from my class. Along with creating extra study guides. Lastly, she kept some accountability and gave task/homework to work on and try to complete before our next session. Bri is an awesome tutor and I would highly recommend it to anyone, especially if you are someone who is struggling to simplify a high level concept.

Nothing Short of Phenomenal

Bri’s explanations are to-the-point and clear, while at the same time retaining an air of sophistication that highlights her dedication to not only the sciences, but to her students. What most stood out to me about Bri, though, was her unparalleled ability to quickly and accurately pinpoint your weak spots with respect to the topic at hand. It’s seriously awesome knowing that someone as knowledgeable as Bri never fails to highlight them and correct them in case you yourself, did. I highly recommend Bri if you want to rethink the way you look at science!

Best tutor i've worked with.

Bri is without a doubt the crème de la crème of tutors—I've encountered six others in various areas before her, and none even come close. Her teaching prowess is unmatched, and her ability to decipher people's needs, especially mine, is truly remarkable. Throughout our sessions, I never once felt pressured to provide answers I wasn't sure of, and she never wasted time on topics I was already familiar with. But what truly sets Bri apart is her unparalleled level of preparation. Before we even began, she proactively sought out all relevant course materials, delved into my goals and timeline, and armed herself with a myriad of resources to ensure our sessions were nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment our session commenced, she hit the ground running, making every second count. And her dedication doesn't stop there—she even went the extra mile by requesting a list of questions for our next meeting to ensure we maximize our time together. Bri is not just a tutor; she's a force to be reckoned with. Her preparedness, dedication, and commitment to her students are simply unmatched. I'm pretty sure she'd bring a cannon to a knife fight! 💪
