Well, to start things off, I have been a math teacher for about 15 years. I have primarily taught middle school mathematics at private Catholic Schools, but started out in public schools. Well, to start things off, I have been a math teacher for about 15 years. I have primarily taught middle school mathematics at private Catholic Schools, but started out in public schools. One of the reasons I chose to pursue teaching mathematics was because it seemed there was a fear that students today could not learn math and that teachers were ineffective in the classroom.

I am proud to say that during my career as a math teacher, I have taught and witnessed a great deal of success in teaching students in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. One of the traits that I pride myself on as a math teacher is always trying my best to make the subject fun! Mathematics can be a pretty dry subject for some people and I always do my best to put on a theatrical presentation! That said I also think it's important to let students speak their mind when it comes to mathematics. It's important to get to the heart of the misconceptions and if you simply just train someone to follow directions repetitively, it can usually hinder proper understanding down the road.

The other important thing is certainly having patience. Both from myself as well as the students I work with. While some may be naturally gifted in the subject, there are many who struggle. Success takes time as well as commitment, but with the right effort it can happen. That said, I've worked with students of all kinds in terms of their understanding of math. For the most part, most of my experience is teaching and tutoring middle school math students in pre-algebra and algebra 1. I've also worked with students in later elementary years as well.

I am a licensed teacher in Middle School Mathematics in the State of Massachusetts and have also obtained my Master's Degree in teaching Middle School Mathematics (5-8). If you're looking for a math tutor who excels in conversationalist methods and wants to give you the time to really speak your mind and understand critical concepts within mathematics, please reach out and let's see what we can setup.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

Students in Algebra 1 will further their understanding of mathematical content involving the use of variables. Students will learn how to setup and model an expression/equation that relates to real life problems, and use methods to find needed answers. Students will also further their understanding of coordinate planes and also how to understand linear relationships. Using our understanding of slope, students will be able to take a mathematical example and model it visually within a coordinate plane. This understanding will then be used to help students make predictions and also determine future results for any given problem. Factoring, quadratic equations, and systems of equations will also be used to help students master their understanding of Algebra. Towards the end of this course, students should have all the necessary skills to go on into Geometry.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

Pre-Algebra serves as an introductory point to students learning about variables and unknown values. Using the knowledge of variables, equations, and expressions, students will learn how to solve analytical questions. Also of importance in this course is that students will have a mastery of integers and rational numbers. They will use this mastery to help further their understanding of pre-algebra. Ratios and Proportional Relationships will also help students relate math content to the real world and use strategies to find needed solutions.
