Hello! My name is Amanda, and I am a licensed English teacher, college consultant, and tutor with over nine years of experience. I hold a B.A. from Brown University in Nonfiction English and an M.Ed. from the Johns Hopkins University School of Education in Educational Studies and Special Education.

I started as a Writing Fellow at Brown's Sheridan Center for Teaching and Learning where I oversaw undergraduate essays in various departments including Public Policy, Entrepreneurship, Sociology, and more. My students earned A's on their papers following my guidance, even those who claimed writing was not their strong suit. Whether you're a high school student working on a paper about gender relations in Shakespearean plays, or a college student presenting a thesis on urban stratification in the US, I will help you every step of the way, from outline to polished draft.

I am also well versed in what you need to understand on the SAT Reading portions and how to craft application essays. I have helped students get into their dream schools including Columbia, Brown, NYU, Tufts, and more. I will help you tackle those tricky sections of the Digital SAT, and then help you craft a memorable narrative that will bolster your applications.

And to anyone who is looking for a catch-all English academic tutor, I am here for you, too! All students bring their own strengths to the table, and my job is to use what I know to help students further those strengths and build on desired areas of improvement. We work together to assess what you knows, what's out of your comfort zone, and how to bridge the area between the two. Whether you need extra practice with reading comprehension, or you want to get ahead and read above grade level, I can tailor my instruction to help you meet your goals.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or would like to schedule a lesson. I am open to scheduling regular, weekly hours as well as individual lessons as needed for your purposes.

Tutor who can make you think

Amanda has been teaching writing 2 of my daughters who are 8th grade and high school for few months now. Teaching writing is hard. It's not like math where there's defined directions to follow and get the answers. She helped them to think about their writing and the topics that they are working on so that they become deeper thinker and analyzer. Amanda's approach has affected both of daughter's writing and their writings have improved to be fuller and clearer. Thank you for your coaching.

Wonderful tutor.

There are good tutors out there, and she is definitely one of them. She is very knowledgeable and knows how to teach, which was very important to me. My child enjoys studying with her, and I feel the time is not wasted.
